Pilates is for everybody and in this 75 minute inquiry based workshop, teachers will have a space to listen to industry leaders who are working to build more inclusive wellness spaces while also reflecting on their own inclusion practices.
Guiding questions for this workshop include:
What makes a person feel welcome in your studio?
How does your studio or your staff reflect the diversity of the community it serves?
Does your fitness programing support a wide array of bodies, needs, and fitness levels?
What kind of language is used for cueing, does it promote options and compassion?
How do we actively account for different barriers to access to movement in our community?
What type of language, visual descriptors, or social media content is used to promote our work?
What investment have I made in my own anti-racist education?
Objectives:
At the end of the workshop the attendee will:
Reflect on their own experience of being welcomed in movement spaces.
Hear from industry leaders and their experiences with cultivating and being in inclusive communities.
Inquire and brainstorm possible pathways of more inclusive movement spaces through their teaching and studio initiatives.
Why should I attend this workshop? Joseph Pilates created a movement system for all bodies, help carry out this mission by investing in your own equity education to expand upon the inclusive foundation of the work we teach. All of us have blind spots as teachers and busy schedules that don’t lend themselves to the critical self reflection and brainstorming that allows our studio to let all bodies blossom and thrive. Give yourself the space to listen, reflect, and brainstorm. Teachers of all fitness modalities are welcome to attend this workshop.
What if I can't make the date and time?
We understand life is busy! If you cannot attend this course at the scheduled time, please register, and a recording will be uploaded to PeakU within 48 hours of the workshop, where it will be available to view for two weeks.
