This workout will begin and end with Joe’s standing exercises, as we embark on a journey back in time to re-discover many of Mr Pilates original variations on mat exercises. After a short standing sequence designed by Joe Pilates to invigorate large groups of either military, or Jacob’s Pillow dancers, we’ll follow a traditional mat work order, with exercises from his work including some archival exercise variations. We’ll explore, experience and discover Joe’s intentions behind each one, and the reason for each variation. Class will commence with more standing exercises and leave us on our feet ready to Return To Life, and take on anything beyond the Pilates studio door.
Objectives:
To share a fun and challenging workout
To help the group explore and experience many of the original exercises from Joe Pilates’ archival film and RTL
To discuss the intentions behind these exercises and their relationship to other exercises, and their benefits.
To share a passion for Joe’s original work and to build connection with the intention behind each exercise and many of the more modern takes on his work.
Why should I take this workshop? Each student will leave feeling invigorated and challenged from a fun workout. They will get to understand the original early work of Mr Pilates and build a comprehension of his ideas and focus behind many of his exercises. The class will be a fun experience, but will leave students feeling interested in the archival and classical work, and inspired to step forward along their own personal Pilates journey.
