Meeting, Managing, and Motivating Clients: A Whole Person Approach for Pilates Teachers with Kimberly Boucher
Start your year out right and receive guidance in supporting the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—while also understanding the unique developmental stage, personality styles, and relationship needs each client brings to the studio. Learn how to meet clients where they are, maintain strong connections, and motivate lasting progress through strategies that honor their physical goals, emotional experiences, and personal growth. With this holistic approach, teachers can create meaningful, long-term client relationships that inspire confidence, resilience, and transformation.
Objectives
1. Identify client needs across developmental stages (young adult, midlife, older adult) and apply strategies tailored to each stage
2. Recognize common personality styles based on the Big Five Personality Traits, also known as OCEAN or CANOE, a psychological model that describes five broad dimensions of personality: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.
3. Explain how attachment styles may influence client-instructor dynamics and demonstrate strategies to build safety and trust in the Pilates studio
4. Describe common client fears (i.e. fear of injury, failure, judgment) and practice reframing techniques to reduce resistance and increase confidence
5. Apply motivational strategies including SMART goal setting and celebrating progress to enhance client retention and consistency
6. Increase instructor self-awareness by reflecting on personality, attachment style, strengths and weaknesses, and identify one way to adapt to meet clients where they are.
