Post Spinal Fusion and Back Surgery First Steps with Nancy Hurd

Clients often come to the studio after fusion and back surgery, post physical therapy, when they are “released” to do Pilates. What does this mean and where should an instructor start? Review basic protocols to follow when planning sessions and learn traditional and non-traditional Pilates exercises to get your clients moving safely and confidently to prepare them to begin working within the full Pilates System and returning to full functional movement. Join Nancy and learn from her personal experience with this surgery to explore the physiological and psychological aspects of this procedure and to gain a true Mind Body and Spirit understanding.

Objectives:

1. Attendee will understand the general guidelines in working with a post fusion client.

2. Attendee will be able to teach pre-Pilates exercises with a focus on post fusion client.

3. Attendee will be able to apply the post fusion guidelines to pick exercises appropriate for the client to help them with functional movement and prepare them for full Pilates sessions as well as apply them to those with other back injuries

Why should I take this session?

This workshop will benefit teachers who have, or wish to have, post-fusion clients as well as clients with general back injuries. It will give instructors the tools needed to meet their clients where they are and help them develop correct movement patterns. The instructors will gain new exercises that meet the protocols for post fusion clients and will develop an understanding on how to apply exercises to meet the needs of their client.

Equipment:Tower, reformer. short box and pole , ladder barrel , yoga brick, band….. You can apply the info and use what you have.
