The shoulder is an area in the body, that many people have problems with. We see lots of injuries of the shoulder, and pain due to improper movement patterns and a lack of understanding of how the shoulder works. In our world of technology, looking at our phones constantly, and being in front of computers and TV’s, kyphosis, and poor posture is causing a multitude of shoulder issues in our society. This workshop will explore the anatomy of the shoulder in a simple, and understandable way. We will look at the shoulder in Pilates movements and how we can use Pilates to help clients find proper shoulder movement patterns, and learn what muscles to strengthen (and what exercises to use to do that) so that student’s can lead a life of reduced shoulder pain. We will also explore Pilates exercises to help improve posture, which will in turn, help the shoulder to gain strength, and stability, and to encourage a healthy life of movement through the shoulder complex.
Objectives:
At the end of the workshop the attendee will:
1. Understand the shoulder anatomy in a simple way.
2. Ability to look at someone’s posture and know what areas are weak/strong and which ones are tight/flexible and how that relates to shoulder issues.
3. Leave with a multitude of different Pilates exercises to help clients learn how to use their shoulder in the proper movement pattern, as well as strengthen, stretch, and stabilize the correct muscles to help minimize shoulder pain.
Why should I take this workshop? Shoulder issues are very common in our clients. By attending this course, you will gain the knowledge and tools to identify shoulder issues, and know what Pilates exercises can help someone with their shoulder pain, misalignment, and posture. By gaining this knowledge you will be more equipped to handle clients that have shoulder issues, and be successful in helping them move properly not just in the shoulder, but the entire body.
What if I can't make the date and time?
We understand life is busy! If you cannot attend this course at the scheduled time, please register, and a recording will be uploaded to PeakU within 48 hours of the workshop, where it will be available to view for two weeks.
