Post Fusion First Steps

Description

Clients often come to the studio after fusion surgery, post physical therapy, or when they are “released” to do Pilates. What does this mean and where should an instructor start? In this course, participants will review basic protocols to follow when planning sessions. They’ll also learn traditional and non-traditional Pilates exercises to get your clients moving safely and confidently. This will prepare them to begin working within the full Pilates System and to return to full functional movement. Instructors will gain a true Mind-Body-Spirit understanding.

  • Basic protocols, guidelines and what to look for when working with post fusion clients.
  • Traditional and non-traditional pre-Pilates exercises that are appropriate for this population with a focus on stabilization within movement.
  • Exercises on the axillary equipment to help the client with functional, day-to-day movement needs that will support recovery.

Course Objectives:

  1. Attendee will understand the general guidelines when working with a post fusion client.
  2. Attendee will be able to teach pre-Pilates exercises with a focus on post-fusion client.
  3. Attendee will be able to apply the post-fusion guidelines to pick exercises appropriate for the client. These exercises will address the client’s functional movement and prepare them for full Pilates sessions.

This workshop will benefit teachers who have or wish to have post fusion clients. It will give instructors the tools needed to meet their clients where they are at as well as help them to develop correct movement patterns. The instructors will gain new exercises that meet the protocols for post fusion clients. They’ll also develop an understanding of how to apply exercises to meet the needs of their client.
